Pamela Michelle Aboagye

Founder and Creative Director

Michelle trained in interior architecture at KLC School of Design in London. She sets the creative direction of every project, supported by the studio team across design development, procurement, coordination and delivery.

Her story

It began with a sewing machine.

Ms. Atkinson Interiors began in a London flat in the first lockdown of 2020. Michelle had run her own beauty business for years. When that stopped overnight, she bought a sewing machine and made duck and goose down cushions to make her own rooms feel finished. Her landlord saw them and asked for a set. Referrals followed, then questions about what else would suit a bedroom, then whole rooms for friends and family between London and Accra.

The studio was established in June 2020 and named after her late mother, Mary Effie Anthony Atkinson. In 2022 Michelle enrolled at KLC School of Design at Chelsea Harbour to study interior architecture. The studio now works from Accra and London, with a store at the Galleria and projects that range from private homes to Vivrant at the Kempinski.

What the studio believes

Three things every room is held to.

Proportion before decoration

A room is right when its bones are right: the height of a ceiling, the width of a doorway, where the light falls at four in the afternoon. Only then does anything get chosen to go in it.

Materials that gain character

Walnut, stone, linen, brass and velvet, chosen because they age well. A room should look better in its tenth year than on the day it was handed over.

Restraint with warmth

Fewer pieces, better made, placed where the eye wants to rest. Softness against structure, so that a disciplined room still feels like somewhere to come home to.
